Wednesday Warm Up Task - Jigsaw

We found an online jigsaw site (of which I am sure there are many). This site is called jisawplanet.com

We used this activity as our Wednesday Warm Up task.  We got carried away and ended up doing quite a few jigsaws each.  They ranged from 6 piece jigsaw puzzles to 255 pieces! Ka pai Justin and Nicole.

Here are the class efforts on a Google Slide.

I thought I chose a 35 piece puzzle but it turned out to be a 96 piece puzzle. I was wondering why it was taking me so much longer than the rest of the class to finish. The class made me share my screen so they could see my progress as they were working on their multiple jigsaws! They offered lots and lots of encouragement and supportive advice. Thank you Room 21. I think you get that from your teacher. Here are a few screenshots of my progress.

  1. Kia ora Room 21,

This seems like a fun activity to exercise your minds. It is good to see that you are working collaboratively to help Ms Corbett finish her puzzle. Ka pai room 21!

  3. Hi there Room 21

That’s a pretty cool activity! And it’s lovely to read that you all encouraged Miss Corbett to get her puzzle done! Do you think doing a jigsaw online is harder or easier than real life ones? I did all my jigsaws last lockdown but didn’t think to get new ones, so this might be an idea!

    Thanks for sharing room 21

  4. Super cool room 21 and Ms Corbett. I think it takes a lot of resilience to do puzzles. Some people find them relaxing. I have done many jigsaws but never done one on line. I think I might like to challenge myself to do one. I wonder how long it would take you to do one with 500 pieces. Kai Pai guys.

  5. OOPS Room 21 I clicked on your blog to see what you had done at 10am but then I read about your jigsaw puzzles I thought I'd just take a quick look to see how you do it. BIG BIG BIG mistake I did a small 6 piece one, then a 15, then a 35, and last a 50. This is very addictive but lots of fun. Thanks for sharing this site Room 21

  6. Hey Room 21, It's good to see you trying something new but as a long time online jigsaw puzzler it is very addictive. I will just tell you as a friend stick to the 100 pieces and less. Everyone needs their sleep but once starting a larger puzzle many nights have been lost with you saying "just one more piece".

  7. Hi room 21 I am Haripriya from room 22. The jigsaw puzzles looked pretty cool. I think so it would be very stress full to do a 252 piece jigsaw puzzle but it looked nice at the end. I would try this jigsaw puzzle.

    Regards Haripriya Rm 22 NWS

  8. Kia ora Ruma 21. What a cool idea to do a puzzle online. Great idea to screenshot your progress too. I guess you could do the same for a story or some art work to show how it develops over time? Kei te āritarita (excited) because some friends sent me a package yesterday and there was a new puzzle in it!

Chinese Language Week - Day 2 - Tuesday

In researching how to write Tuesday in "Chinese" I was aware there are at least 3 languages including Shanghainese, Cantonese and Mandarin. It's not as straight forward as that. Earlier, I chose a translation that I thought was dragon in a class activity today. The fluent Cantonese and Mandarin speakers in my class did not recognise the symbol. I was embarrassed that I had made a mistake which is one of the pitfalls of cross-cultural analysis. There are always positive outcomes for every situation and we were able to have a discussion about where the symbol may have originated. Another positive outcome is that I am extremely aware of my cultural limitations. So this will result in me asking more questions, seeking more input from experts in our class and in the community. As you can see, I was not confident enough in what I found on the internet to use it in my blog title. An opportunity for further learning. One of the challenges this week is to; LEARN - the signs o...
