Carol’s Birthday Present from Room 11
It’s the 1st of April and it’s our lovely Librarian Carol’s birthday.  Ms Corbett thought she would give Carol a nice present.  Ms. Corbett found this awesome leftover piece of trunking that she thought Carol might like.  Even better, she borrowed a bow from Miss Laxa and put it on the present.  Ms. Corbett will ask Carol for the bow back later.  She thinks Carol will love her present.  Happy Birthday Carol.present compressed.jpgAfaaf and present compressed.jpgsteven and present compressed.jpgCarol compressed.jpg

    Your thoughts about Carol's birthday was funny. Can I ask you a question? What was the thing that you were going to give Carol for her birthday? I really want to know the thing that you were going to give it to Carol. Not all of Room 11 did the thoughts..... Keep up the good work!

Chinese Language Week - Day 2 - Tuesday

In researching how to write Tuesday in "Chinese" I was aware there are at least 3 languages including Shanghainese, Cantonese and Mandarin. It's not as straight forward as that. Earlier, I chose a translation that I thought was dragon in a class activity today. The fluent Cantonese and Mandarin speakers in my class did not recognise the symbol. I was embarrassed that I had made a mistake which is one of the pitfalls of cross-cultural analysis. There are always positive outcomes for every situation and we were able to have a discussion about where the symbol may have originated. Another positive outcome is that I am extremely aware of my cultural limitations. So this will result in me asking more questions, seeking more input from experts in our class and in the community. As you can see, I was not confident enough in what I found on the internet to use it in my blog title. An opportunity for further learning.
